Day 1 - The Enchanted Trails RV Park, Alburqueque, New Mexico

7/23
8:48 am
On the road, FINALLY!!  We've been planning this trip for so long.  I can't believe it's finally here.  I'm a little nervous, do we have everything we need?  Will the dogs be okay?  Is our trailer/car combined length too long?  (There is a 30 foot limit @ the Grand Canyon & we are about a foot too long if they want to be nit picky about it.)  I'm trying to remember that everything in the universe happens as it is supposed to and to let go & RELAX!!!   So it's on to Albuqueque.
On the Road
12:30
We stopped for lunch in Amarillo, basically the halfway point.  Had the baked potato special @ the Cracker Barrel.  Say what you will about them politically, it's nice to be able to have veggies on the road.  Our waitress was pretty happy about her job there too.  She said she is able to work around her children's schedule & is grateful. As I wait for the food to arrive I play the game where you try to jump & remove golf tees from a triangle until there is one left. They have one on every table & sell them in the massive gift shop adjacent to the restaurant.   I can only get to 4 before I have no more moves.  We finish, have a look around at all the useless crap for sale before moving on to the rockers (also for sale) that line the front porch.

5:00
STILL on the road - pulling the T@B takes a lot longer & we stop often for gas b/c we don't like to get under a half tank.  On a positive note the temperature has dropped over 30 degrees as we enter New Mexico.  There is an afternoon squall & the thermometer on the car shows 59 degrees before leveling out in the mid-70s.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Enchanted Trails!!!  The owner has fully restored vintage campers on site, many available for rent.  Our site is up front near the bathroom.  Once we get parked we set up camp for the night.  This is a process we have down to a science.  It takes about 15 minutes to get from parked to fully set up!  We have a tent room that zips on that more than doubles our square footage.  This gives Bryon his own room as well as a place to store things that would otherwise have to live in the car.  Once we are set we tour the grounds.  We were able to borrow a key to take a look inside one of the trailers.

Pure Kitch!

This one actually drives around

"Yellowstone" is the one we toured
How cute is this camper?
Imagine trying to haul this monster around!

After we settled in Ernesto & Bryon made a beer run while I enjoyed the pool & spa.

We had a dinner of beans & rice & quesadillas & turned in for our first night.
