Vive La France!

Ok Friends, you know how this works.  We go on vacay but don't like to advertise that we're not in residence.  When we return I blog it as if it’s happing now.  This trip took place July 10 - 22.  I spent about 6 months planning our itinerary.  We scheduled around the 100th edition of the Tour de France and made arrangements to catch the finish live in Paris on the 21st.  Everything else scheduled around that.  We decided to spend some time on the beach in the south before heading to the capitol city.  Nice was selected for its size and proximity to many smaller communities on the Cote d’Azur.  Come away with us!

July 10

We leave OkC comfortably mid-day.  This allows for a nice lunch @ Cacao, one of our local favorites specializing in Guatemalan food.  Mom gives us a lift to the airport, we say our goodbyes & we are off!!  We make quick transfer at Minneapolis/St. Paul onto Air France bound for Paris.  I’ve never flown A/F before but I’ve heard the food is better so we give it a shot.  The food, while an improvement, is little compensation for the tiny seats.  It is one of the most uncomfortable crossings ever.  They serve lots of free alcohol so maybe if you partake in that you don’t mind being sandwiched with the head of your neighbor in front of you in your lap?

Anyway, we arrive safely & transfer to the gate for our local flight to Nice.  We have a little time to people watch & there is a super interesting couple on our flight.  If she isn’t an aging porn star/sex worker then she sure has spent a lot of money at the plastic surgeon to look that way.  She has on a skin tight pink lycra dress with a plunging V neckline exposing melon sized breasts nearly to the nipple.  With the classic trout mouth, over-blown juicy booty that won't quit, and sky high platform heels  she is a complete package!!  Her companion is a 40ish mafioso looking dude in a black leather jacket who never removes his sunglasses or acknowledges her except to give her visual cues and hand signals; “sit over here”, “get in line”, etc.  They are endlessly facinating,  I wish I could be sneaky with my camera & grab a photo but no such luck.

We arrive & hop in a cab to our beachfront apartment that will be our home for the next week.  http://www.vrbo.com/410045  Nathalie, the owner is there to meet us and while Ernesto goes to exchange dollars for Euros to pay the balance for our rent I have a tour of the apartment and building.  Nathalie recommends some local attractions we might enjoy and soon E is back and we settle up.  We’ve been up nearly 24 hours by now so we think we should get out & stay active as long as possible to try to reset our clocks.

Nathalie has suggested the little train tour ride through the old part of the city so we purchase tickets & hop on for the 45 minute tour.  The soft pretty accent of the English commentary combined with the balmy air, sea breezes & the rocking of the train make staying awake a real struggle.  It is worth the effort once we get to the top of the hill where there are remains of an old chateau and garden with a birds-eye view of the coast and town.

Back down on the beach there are many restaurants & we pick the one right downstairs from the apartment; Sarao for our first meal of local fresh seafood.

A great beginning to our time here and now it’s time to get some sleep!
